October 5th is World Teachers’ Day, a day in which we recognize and celebrate teachers and their important role in society.
World Teachers’ Day was founded in 1994 by former Canadian teacher Norman Gable. Now an annual event, it profiles the work of over 55-million teachers around the world, including the roughly 2,000 Catholic elementary and secondary teachers who serve in our Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic schools.
They not only provide a quality education to the 29,000 students in our Catholic school system, but through their goodness and Christian example, are witnesses of God’s love in their schools.
“To educate is to guide students on an inner journey toward more truthful ways of seeing and being in the world,” said Parker Palmer, author of “The Courage to Teach.”
On World Teachers’ Day, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board extends a sincere thank you to its dedicated and hard-working Catholic teachers for walking with, and guiding students on their journey of faith and discovery.
